The Big Bad Wolf on Trial! You Decide His Fate.

“The Big Bad Musical” is a howling court room comedy where the most memorable group of fairy tale characters testify both for and against the Big Bad Wolf on his wrong doings. The audience is the jury and votes his guilt or innocent at the end. Presented by Looking Glass Theater on the campus of the First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Diego in Hillcrest, April 29-30 and May 6-7 at 7:30 p.m. Suggested donation is $16 at the door and $13 advanced on-line tickets at www.LookingGlassSD.org. “The Big Bad Musical” book by Alex Strum with music and lyrics by Bill Francoeur, creator of the popular musical, “The Enchantment of Beauty and the Beast”. The play’s co-directors are Gay Hybertsen and Les GrantSmith.

The Wolf (Myles Luber) faces plaintiffs Little Red Riding Hood (Ingrid Brinton), the Three Little Pigs (Everardo Aguilar, Eduardo [Eddie] Reidel and Rosalie Reidel), The Lawyers are the Fairy Godmother (Andrea Newall) and the Evil Stepmother (Maxine Levaren). The Judge is played by Jeff Duncan.

Other characters in the play are Grandmother Riding Hood (Kia Bordner), the Woodsman (Mike James), the old Shepherd (Grant Ferrier), and his son, The Boy Who Cried Wolf (Rile Grant). The Wolf has a pack with the back-up singing group, the “Wolfettes “(Kate Webb, Crystalinda White and Sierra Gore).

The orchestra is lead by Ardath Schaibly on piano. Eric Hybertsen plays saxophone with Jason Votaw on banjo. Dierdre Lonergan performs guitar and cello. 

A Chili Dinner for $20 will be held on Friday, May 6 at 6 PM at the church. Price includes admission to the show. The proceeds benefit The California Wolf Center in Julian. The center is dedicated to the recovery of wolves in the wild lands they once roamed, through conservation, education and research. The Center will make a presentation at the dinner and have an information table set up during the run of the show. Tickets available on www.LookingGlassSD.org.

Looking Glass Theatre was founded in 1986. The Big Bad Musical is its forty-ninth show . In the last four years the group has also produced “Seussical”, “Nunsense”, “Once Upon a Mattress”, “8”, “Spoon River Anthology”, “You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown”, “The Enchantment of Sleeping Beauty” and Laramie Project: Ten Years Later. In recent years they have staged “Oliver”, “Fiddler on the Roof”, ”The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told” and “Jeffrey”.
 
The First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Diego campus, at 4190 Front Street, is wheelchair accessible. To reach the campus from I-8, take Hwy 163 South. Exit on Washington West. From I-5, exit Washington (East). From Washington go North on First Avenue (one way). Turn left on Arbor Street when First Avenue ends. Go one block.
