         Across the street from UCSD Medical Center

                                                   If you are unable to audition during the scheduled times, 
                     please email before Friday, September 9, for potential alternate audition slot.

At the audition, be prepared to --

  • show up on time, no need for an assigned time slot
  • provide your availability for rehearsals 
  • fill out a form with pertinent personal information
  • have your picture taken (to assist directors' memories)
  • read with others from scripts provided (no need to bring a monologue)
  • have fun

About 20 actors will be cast:

FEMALES -
one teenager
six aged 20 - 60

MALES -
one teenager
three aged 20 - 40
one ageless

MUSES/NARRATORS -
three male or female, ages teen & up

#1 Buying A Brassiere by Rebecca Ritchie 
Directed by Rosalie Riedel 
A woman with breast cancer is fighting her fears, trying to feel feminine and sexy again by buying a frilly, lacy bar, with prosthetics.

Characters:

Diane:     A breast cancer survivor, 30 - 50, shopping for lingerie. Pantomime required. Must be comfortable breaking the fourth wall (speaking directly to the audience).
Marie:    A French-Canadian underwear fitter, age 60+. Pantomime required. Able to do a slight, not overly dramatic French accent.


#2 Ma In Her Kerchief  by Janet Kenney
Directed by Gay Hybertsen
A strong willed mother-in-law, suffering from cancer, works out the territorial implications of living in her daughter-in-law's household.

Characters:

Andrea:      A young bride in her 20's, anxious to please
Ruth:           Her mother-in-law, who is 55 plus, and has definite ideas about how Christmas should be done.  



#3 Stairway To Heaven by Gregory Fletcher
Directed by Les GrantSmith
Gil and Elisa, brother and sister in their teens, are preparing to attend their father's funeral. While struggling to come to terms with changing family dynamics, Elisa challenges Gil to be honest with their mother about being gay.

Characters:

Two high-school age youth, one male and one female, to play siblings.


#4 The Desk by Kia Bordner
Directed by Kia Bordner
Newly married, Jill, requests her parents' desk for her new home, sending her mother, Elaine, down Memory Lane.

Characters:

Elaine:                   Main character and narrator
Younger Elaine: About 20 years younger
Don:                       Elaine’s husband, Jill’s father
Jill:                        Newly married daughter setting up first home
Young Jill:           School aged (non speaking role)
Ian:                         Jill’s husband

Can Santa be talked into revealing whether you have been "Naughty" or "Nice" before he drops down your chimney?
